Briksdal

We took a coach ride from the village of Olden, Norway through the amazingly scenic Oldedalen to have an easy, short but cold hike from Briksdalen to Briksdalsbreen – we’d never seen a glacier before.

The coach ride was beautiful – there are countless waterfalls tumbling down the sides of Oldedalen, all heading for the river and lake that flows through the valley into Nordford. The hike built upon that, going uphill, crossing over the river just ahead of the Kleivafossen waterfall and then repeatedly crossing it until reaching the glacier.

It was interesting to see the character of the river change along the way, from glacier, to a thick-iced glacial lake, to rapids, waterfalls, rapids, flat lakes and more rapids, all the way to the fjord.
